Welcome Back BBQ (12 February 2008)

Our logo tells us something of our identity.  In this image which appears here on our banner, there is the embryo, the seed from which we grow.  The embryo is protected, arms encircling and aiming skywards.

Around these arms are the arms of our community, of our school, our teachers, friends and family, our society.  It takes all of these to care for the child, to allow the child to grow.

But this image also suggests a flame.  It aims to the sky.

The light of knowledge.

The passion to know more.

The freedom given to explore.

So, today, we celebrate the flame that joins us.

Our path is lit by a love of learning.

Today we celebrate and welcome those who are present, and those unable to join us.

In lighting this candle today we mark this occasion symbolically.

To Commemorate "The Apology" (13 February 2008)

100 Steps for Montessori and Maria Montessori's Birthday (31st Aug. 07)

To celebrate 100 years of Montessori Education we took part in the global initiative 100 Steps for Montessori.  We decided to do the walk on Maria Montessori's birthday to celebrate the occasion (and so we could have a little bit of cake).  We had a beautiful day and a great turnout as you can see from the pictures!  Thank you to all the parents and children for walking for such a great cause!

Science Expo (23rd August 2007 - part of National Science Week)

This year we celebrated National Science Week by holding a whole school Science Expo.  The theme was Antarctic Science, with students investigating any topic that they were interested in when it came to this cold continent!

We were lucky enough to have a guest speaker, Glen Dawson, who has spent some time in Antarctica.  He brought along some amazing photos and answered all of the children's questions.

Symbio Wildlife Gardens (May 2007)

Parents and students spent this beautiful sunny day at the Symbio Wildlife Gardens.  We were able to wander around the park in small groups, then met together for a meerkat presentation.  Just before lunch the Koalas came to visit with the children patting their new friends.  The highlight of the day was just before we left, when we met some friendly and strange looking reptiles!

Minnamurra Rainforest (February 2007)

All the children from Elonera went on this excursion to our local rainforest.  From ages 3 years to 15 years, it was a lovely group that was able to explore this beautiful natural resource.

To top the day off parents joined us for a delicious sausage sizzle for lunch!

Harmony Day (21st March 2007)

On Wednesday 21st March Elonera celebrated Harmony Day.  Harmony Day is a day to celebrate multiculturalism and the diverse backgrounds that make Elonera what we are today. Today we gathered with friends and family to see the unveiling of the Whole School Mural.

Elizabeth Goor and Paul Ryan welcomed the children, parents and friends to the School and spoke about the Mural.

To finish off this harmonious day, the High School students cooked everyone a BBQ lunch that was delicious!!

Children and families then wandered around the classrooms, tasting the wonderful food and seeing the interesting artifacts from all over the world.

Red Day (March 2007)

Was organised by one of the High School Students to raise money for the Australian Red Cross.  He organised for each child to dress in red, gave a small speech about the Australian Red Cross and gave each of the children a little treat to say thank you!
